HEREBY is an emerging design-focused architecture practice based in Calgary, Alberta. HEREBY's principals have led projects across a range of typologies including a number of bridge, infrastructure and public open space projects. Across all of this work, the team employs a hyper creative and experimental process that leverages our ability to quickly iterate and uncover the most compelling design narrative for a project - one that remains clear from the first sketch through to construction. As a practice, HEREBY believes that this relentless hunt for conceptual clarity results spaces and places that leave an impression on those that use them. HEREBY combines this strong conceptual approach with expertise in research, technology, and sustainability to create meaningful design solutions that provide economic, cultural, and social value.
Matt Stewart, Principal
Architect AAA AIBC LEED BD+C
Matt has worked on a variety of project typologies and scales including academic, cultural and recreational buildings. With a background in computer science and interactive design, Matt brings an interdisciplinary approach to design. He weighs and manages the complexity of project specifications, sustainable opportunities, community integration, aesthetic consideration and human relationships through the intersection of computational tools and human-centered design.
Yves Poitras, Principal
Architect AAA, M.Arch
Yves has experience working on projects of various building typologies around the world. Yves was the recipient of the Prix de Rome for Emerging Practitioners which led him to work in Europe on a variety of mixed-use and cultural projects in France, Portugal, and the UK. His work was presented at an exhibition named Combined/Between in Calgary in 2019. He has since continued to pursue his passion for developing unique approaches to the way projects are programmed and promoting interaction between user groups.
Michael Zabinski, Principal
Designer, M.Arch
Michael has provided creative leadership on over 70 projects covering a range of contexts, scales, and typologies including mixed-use, hospitality, culture, and the public realm. Across all these typologies he is motivated to create meaningful places born out of strong design ideas. In practice, Michael leverages his strong hand sketching and visualization skills to drive the conceptual design process and communicate the project vision through to completion.
Joshua Clarke
Designer, M.Arch
Joshua is a multidisciplinary designer with a diverse background in architecture, civil engineering, social work, psychology, and visual arts.
